A DARKNESS FORGED IN FIRE: BOOK ONE from the IRON ELVES TRILOGY GIVEAWAY

GIVEAWAY ENDED
A DARKNESS FORGED IN FIRE
BOOK ONE from the IRON ELVES TRILOGY
BY CHRIS EVANS

ABOUT THE BOOK:
First in a stunning debut series, A Darkness Forged in Fire introduces an unforgiving world of musket and cannon…bow and arrow…magic, diplomacy, and oaths — each wielding terrible power in an Empire teetering on the brink of war.

In this world, Konowa Swift Dragon, former commander of the Empire’s elite Iron Elves, is looked upon as anything but ordinary. He’s murdered a Viceroy, been court-martialed, seen his beloved regiment disbanded, and finally been banished in disgrace to the one place he despises the most — the forest.

Now, all he wants is to be left alone with his misery…but for Konowa, nothing is ever that simple. The mysterious and alluring Visyna Tekoy, the highborn daughter of an elfkynan governor, seeks him out in the dangerous wild with a royal decree that he resume his commission as an officer in Her Majesty’s Imperial Army, effective immediately.

For in the east, a falling Red Star heralds the return of a magic long vanished from the earth. Rebellion grows within the Empire as a frantic race to reach the Star unfolds. It is a chance for Konowa to redeem himself — even if the entire affair appears doomed to be a suicide mission…

and that the soldiers recruited for the task are not at all what he expects. And worse, his key adversary in the perilous race for the Star is the dreaded Shadow Monarch — a legendary elf-witch whose machinations for absolute domination spread deeper than Konowa could ever imagine….

PRAISE FOR FORGED IN FIRE:
“An outstanding military fantasy series…Strong storytelling, a compelling cast of heroes and villains, and a keen knowledge of military tactics of the Napoleonic era make this…a splendid read for fans of both sf and fantasy military adventure. Highly recommended.”
—Library Journal, Starred Review

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
CHRIS EVANS was born in Toronto, Canada and now lives in New York City. He’s earned degrees in English/History, Political Science, and a Masters in History with Distinction specializing in military history. Before moving to the U.S. he was a military historian and conducted battlefield tours of Europe in addition to being the military historical consultant on a television documentary on the First World War. Chris started his commercial publishing career as an editor with Ballantine/Del Rey of Random House and is currently the editor of history and current affairs/conflicts books at Stackpole Books where he launched the Stackpole Military History Series which now has over 120 titles in print. The Iron Elves is Chris’s first series. The trilogy is being translated into French, German, Japanese, Russian, and Czech.

In a recent interview, Chris was asked the following question and I am passing it along as I found it interesting.
If stranded on a desert island without the cast of Lost (or the S.S. Minnow,) what five books would you want to have with you?
A) The Pocket Ref – contains an insane amount of information in a book 5 1/4″ by 3″.
B) Lord of the Rings – single volume of all the books, find me one that includes the Hobbit and I’m set.
C) Dune – Published the year I was born and still contains exceptionally few dated ideas.
D) Robinson Crusoe – I only hope to be as prepared as he was, but could use the tips.
E) Six Not So Easy Pieces – Richard Feynman – probably the only way I’ll even finish it. I start this book and constantly have to put it down and then it vanishes every time. Is there some sort of quantum instability to it?

It sounds like it will be a very good series. I would like to see how the world is, that is inhabited by elves.

Hi! First, huge thanks for featuring my series on your blog. I definitely appreciate it and hope your readers enjoy it. Second, um, I'm not sure where that list of 5 favorite books comes from, but I think it might be from a different Chris Evans. My favorite list would be this:
1. The Oxford English Dictionary
2. Quartered Safe Out Here by George MacDonald Fraser
3. The collected works of Rudyard Kipling
4. The collected works of William Shakespeare
5. And a tie between the Harry Potter series and the bible (what can I say, I love fantasy :)

Cheers,

Chris

I think it's interesting that he has a degree in history. Lately I've been noticing that authors can have degrees in such a variety of subjects.
