BLOODLINE: A GUEST REVIEW AND GIVEAWAY

GIVEAWAY ENDED
BLOODLINE
A Sigma Force Novel
BY JAMES ROLLINS

ABOUT THE BOOK:
In a thrilling masterwork that will make you rethink your perceptions of life and death, New York Times bestselling author James Rollins takes you to the edge of medicine, genetics, and technology, revealing the next evolutionary leap forward: immortality—a horrifying truth that is locked inside the Bloodline

Galilee, 1025. Infiltrating an ancient citadel, a Templar knight uncovers a holy treasure long hidden within the fortress's labyrinth: the Bachal Isu—the staff of Jesus Christ—a priceless icon that holds a mysterious and terrifying power that promises to change humankind forever.

A millennium later, Somali pirates hijack a yacht off the coast of the Horn of Africa, kidnapping a young pregnant American woman. Commander Gray Pierce is enlisted for the covert rescue mission into the African jungle—for the woman is no rich tourist; she's Amanda Gant-Bennett, the daughter of the U.S. president.

Suspicious that the kidnapping masks a far more nefarious plot, Gray must confront a shadowy cabal, one who has been manipulating events throughout history . . . and now challenges the current presidency.

For this sensitive mission, SIGMA is aided by a pair of special operatives with unique talents: former Army Ranger Captain Tucker Wayne and his military war dog, Kane. But what should be a straightforward rescue turns into a fiery ambush and a deadly act of betrayal as Gray and his team discover that the hostage is a pawn in a shattering act of terrorism with dark repercussions. And the danger is only beginning. . . .

Halfway around the world, a firebombing at a fertility clinic in South Carolina exposes a centuries-old conspiracy to manipulate our genetic code. With time against them, SIGMA must race to save an innocent unborn baby, one who holds the key to a mystery and whose very existence raises questions about the nature of humanity, asking:

Could you live forever?

Would you live forever?

PRAISE FOR JAMES COLLINS AND FOR BLOODLINE:
“One of the most inventive storytellers writing today”—Lincoln Child, bestselling co-author of Gideon’s Corpse

“The modern master of the action thriller.”Providence Journal-Bulletin

“Nobody—and I mean nobody—does this stuff better than Rollins.”—Lee Child, bestselling author of the Jack Reacher novels

“From the hidden Indian treasure, to the Fort Knox secrets, to the conspiracy at the beginning of the United States The Devil Colony gives you every reason why you’ll want to be a member of Sigma Force.”
— Brad Meltzer, New York Times bestselling author of The Inner Circle on The Devil Colony
“James Rollins is a master of international action and intrigue.”— Richmond Times-Dispatch  “Rollins combines real-world science with high-octane action to create rousing stories of adventure that are as exciting as any movie.”

— Chicago Sun-Times

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
James Rollins is the author of six thrillers in the bestselling Sigma Force series (Sandstorm, Map of Bones, Black Order, The Judas Strain, The Last Oracle, and The Doomsday Key); the blockbuster movie novelization Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull; and six individual adventure thrillers. Rollins is also writing the Jake Ransom series for kids and adults. The first volume, Jake Ransom and the Skull King's Shadow, is in bookstores now, and the next release, Jake Ransom and the Howling Sphinx, is due in Spring 2011. Publication date for his seventh sigma adventure, The Devil Colony, is Summer 2011.

Known for building high-octane adventures on a solid science foundation, Rollins juxtaposes the familiar with the exotic and then turbocharges his tales with suspense. Always mindful of history’s legacy, Rollins reveals how secrets, some hidden for centuries, can change the course of human events. His novels explore how advancing technology can affect society—not just the physical threats of unchecked advancements, but also the spiritual and moral challenges. “The true terror of technology is not the cogs and the wheels, but how it will change us,” he says.

Explosive, Page-Turning Adventures
Rollins has brought readers at least one book a year since this first thriller was published in 1999. His novels have been deemed perfect summer reads by reviewers in publications as diverse as People magazine, USA Today, and Publishers Weekly. His books have been translated for readers in 32 countries outside the United States.

The Bestselling Sigma Force Series
A division of DARPA (the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency), Sigma Force is a covert organization of highly skilled Special Forces operatives with expertise in two or more scientific fields. Each novel stands alone, yet all share a cast of recurring characters—and some unexpected appearances by characters from Rollins’s previous thrillers. With Sandstorm, the prequel to the main Sigma Force series, Rollins broke into The New York Times bestseller list. Each consecutive Sigma novel has climbed higher on that list, breaking into the Top Five.

Independent Adventure-Thrillers
When Lucasfilm sought an author to convert the fourth Indiana Jones blockbuster into novel form, Rollins was the logical choice to create the book-length tale of everyone’s favorite globe-trotting, treasure-hunting, wisecracking archaeologist: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

When Rolllins is not writing, touring, teaching seminars, or making presentations, he can be found spelunking, scuba diving, hiking, and/or traveling. Rolllins and his two- and four-legged family members live amid chew toys and paleontological treasures in Northern California.

A GUEST REVIEW:
It is with great delight that I present Larry DeLeon's review of BLOODLINE by James Rollins. Larry has reviewed for my blog before and his professional, spot-on reviews are always well received. Larry works and lives in North Carolina. Larry and his lovely wife share their home with their much loved dog, Hoover, who runs the show in the DeLeon home.  Thank you, Larry!

This is a book for action/ espionage fans who like their action fast and furious but also demand good storytelling. BLOODLINE demonstrates Rollins' skill as a writer in this genre, along with a well researched foundation in science. It's a great story with numerous twists and turns that won't quit and an appealing cast of characters woven into it. This book is a great read, a real page turner, and a big budget Hollywood movie waiting to be made.

As with any novel in this genre, suspension of disbelief is essential, but you won't have much time to think about it as you are rocked through each exciting development. Besides, who wouldn't be interested in a book that teases you into wanting to live forever? A surprise ending to boot! Oh, and don't skip the notes at the end. You'll be surprised at how far science has come in this area.

5 stars for Rollins; BLOODLINE is a first class adventure, don't miss it.
--Larry DeLeon
