LET'S GET COZY! MURDER IS A PIECE OF CAKE PREVIEW, AUTHOR INTERVIEW, AND GIVEAWAY

  GIVEAWAY ENDED
MURDER IS A PIECE OF CAKE
A Joise Marcus, Mystery Shopper, Mystery
BY ELAINE VIETS
ABOUT THE BOOK:
Mystery shopper Josie Marcus is thrilled to be getting married. But when a deranged bride meets a grim end, Josie will have to catch a murderer before she tosses the bouquet…

As a bride-to-be, Josie’s latest assignment is absolutely fitting—investigating wedding flowers and wedding cakes. Josie can’t wait to pick out the details to make her own wedding perfect, even as her fiancé Ted’s outrageous mother has plans to turn the celebration into an over-the-top extravaganza. Still, the pistol-packing Lenore does come in handy when she draws her gun on Molly—a homicidal bridezilla who threatens to kill Ted unless he agrees to marry her—and saves the day.

Josie thinks the worst pre-wedding disaster is behind her—until Molly is shot and Lenore becomes the prime suspect. With her mother-in-law behind bars and her wedding on hold, Josie’s about to become fully engaged in finding the bridezilla killer and getting her own wedding back on track…

AN INTERESTING GUEST POST BY AUTHOR ELAINE VIETS:
EXCERPTS TAKEN FROM "NOVEMBER RELEASES FROM BERKLEY PRIME CRIME AND OBSIDIAN MYSTERIES" NEWSLETTER...PART OF A Q&A.
1)  MURDER IS A PIECE OF CAKE is the eighth book in your acclaimed Josie Marcus, Mystery Shopper series and Josie has really changed over the years. In this book she’s hoping to get married. Can you talk about her changing life a bit? Why is it now time for her to settle down? Do you think this will affect her sleuthing ability?

Josie is a 31-year-old single mom, who already settled down. She has a full-time job and a tween daughter. But Josie never expected to marry. She’d been madly in love with Nate, the father of their daughter, Amelia, and expected they would marry when she told him she was pregnant. Before she could announce her good news, Nate was arrested for drug dealing, and Josie was devastated. Josie refused to drag her daughter into that world. She was determined to live without love.

She had a few romances that led nowhere. She met the man she marries in MURDER IS A PIECE OF CAKE the vet Dr. Ted Scottsmeyer, under the most unromantic circumstances: He unplugged Amelia’s constipated cat, Harry.

Josie never expected to marry a man like Ted — handsome, successful and a good cook — but their romance finally led to the altar in MURDER IS A PIECE OF CAKE.

Because she’d had bad luck with other men, Josie was afraid to marry Ted. Besides, she and Amelia lived downstairs from her mother in the flat Jane owned, and Josie was reluctant to leave her mom.

But Josie’s best friend, Alyce, told her she needed the courage to accept her good fortune and live her dream. Alyce pointed out that Jane could make more money renting the flat for its true market value. Josie pays reduced rent.

Will Josie continue to stumble into mysteries? I’ve got a feeling that part of her life won’t change.
.....
4)  Now that the series has been running for a while, you’ve had to think of many ways to murder people. How do you keep coming up with those inspirations?

Heh. Heh. That’s how my mind works. And it’s not just me. I like asking other people how they would murder someone. I get the most surprising answers. Often, the most ferocious responses come from the mildest-looking people.TO READ MORE OF THIS FASCINATING Q&A WITH ELAINE VIETS, VISIT THE WHOLE ARTICLE HERE!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Elaine Viets writes two national bestselling mystery series. Her Dead-End Job series is a satiric look at a serious subject – the minimum-wage world. Her character, Helen Hawthorne, works a different low-paying job each book, from telemarketer to hotel maid. Publishers Weekly called her hardcover debut “wry social commentary.” The critically acclaimed “Final Sail” is the eleventh Dead-End Job novel.

Elaine’s second series features St. Louis mystery shopper Josie Marcus. “Murder Is a Piece of Cake" is her eighth adventure. The debut, “Dying in Style,” tied with Stephen King on the Independent Mystery Booksellers Association bestseller list. Elaine won the Agatha, Anthony and Lefty Awards.
