WELCOME TO BOOKIN' WITH BINGO'S
AUDIOBOOK WEEK!
I AM EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE TODAY'S
AUDIO BOOK CHOICE....

GIVEAWAY ENDED
TELL MY SONS
A Father’s Last Letters
BY LT. COL. MARK M. WEBER
Read by the Author
ABOUT THE BOOK:
When he was diagnosed with cancer and given four months to live, Lt. Col. Mark M. Weber began a letter of advice to his three sons. That letter became Tell My Sons, a collection of lessons on encouragement, empowerment, and inspiration.

At the height of his career, at the age of 38, Lt. Col. Mark M. Weber was diagnosed with Stage IV cancer. Given four months to live, he began to write a letter to his three boys to impart the lessons that living--and dying-- taught him about courage and fear, challenge and comfort, words and actions, pride and humility, seriousness and humor, and a never-ending search for new ideas and inspiration.

Over time that letter became this audiobook. And it's not just for his sons. It's for everyone who could use the best advice a dying hero has to offer.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Lt. Col. Mark M. Weber was born and raised in Minnesota. He has served a total of twenty-three years in the U.S. Army, with five years as an enlisted soldier in the Minnesota National Guard and nineteen years on active duty as a commissioned officer. He has been stationed throughout the United States, at the Pentagon, in Saudi Arabia, and in Iraq. He is a distinguished alumnus of Minnesota State University, holds master’s degrees in history from Jacksonville State University in Alabama and public policy management from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., and has served as a policy fellow at the University of Minnesota. His awards include the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, and the Combat Action Badge. Weber lives in Rosemount, Minnesota, with his wife, Kristin, and their three sons.

PLEASE take time that you won't regret to watch the longer video of Lt. Col. Mark M. Weber giving his powerful speech and singing with his son at an Army Birthday address at the Minnesota History Center in Saint Paul on June 14, 2012. You can find it on YouTube HERE.

PRAISE FOR TELL MY SONS:
“A gift to us all . . . Every page exudes courage, honesty, and an indomitable spirit. Mark Weber’s story has touched me in such a profound way.”—Mitch Albom, author of Tuesdays with Morrie

“Tell My Sons is a deeply moving, personal account of a soldier’s journey into an ultimate frontier. As I read Mark Weber’s book, I was astonished by its honesty, courage, and discipline. This book offers one of the most profound and detailed descriptions of the strange world of cancer and should be essential reading for all of us who seek to understand that topsy-turvy terrain.”
—Siddhartha Mukherjee, Pulitzer Prize–winning author of The Emperor of All Maladies

“Tell My Sons is one of the most profound and inspirational stories I have ever read. It may have been written for Mark’s children, but it may as well be a treatise for all of us about honest parenting and leadership with character in love, family, faith, and politics. For a man who is facing profound health issues, Mark is doing a remarkable job showing us all how to live with courage and integrity.”
—Walter F. Mondale, former vice president of the United States

“This book is why I have always been proud to call Mark Weber my son. His ability to reach across complex boundaries and write and speak with such depth and beauty makes him a modern day Lawrence of Arabia. Mark’s passion, attitude, and thoughts about life are what is best about America.”
—General Babakir S. Zibari, chief of defense, Republic of Iraq

“A poignant illustration of what being a hero is all about . . . Heroes exemplify invincible courage, character, and perseverance in times of insurmountable odds. Mark embodies these attributes. Tell My Sons will empower the reader with profound lessons of living life with hope and determination.”
—John Elway, Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback

MY THOUGHTS/REVIEW:
My review of TELL MY SONS can go on and on but you only need to read the summary above and the praise given by the celebrated people quoted there as well to know that this is a stellar audiobook…and a book you must read! It will change your life. Much as Randy Pausch’s THE LAST LECTURE made a profound impact on me when I read it a few years back, TELL MY SONS has just added to that feeling and essence. The fact that Lt. Col. Mark M. Weber reads the book himself only adds to the emotional and personal stories he shares. If you come away with nothing else, I hope you will understand all that he felt about humility. He talks in the audiobook about how his personal courage helped him to handle his condition and become a better man, husband, father, and leader. You will laugh and you will cry but trust me, you won’t regret one single moment. May Lt. Col. Mark M. Weber stay in your thoughts and prayers every day as he does in mine. May he rest in peace.
Lt. Col. Mark Weber, who served as a top military officer and chronicled his fight with cancer in the inspirational book "Tell My Sons," died Thursday, June 13, 2013. He was 41....THE MINNESOTA POST, JUNE 13, 2013

I was listening to the Father's Day show on The Book Report (bookreportradio{dot}com for the archived show and online streaming...I'm not American, but those in the US can listen live-the stations are on their site), and Mark Weber's "Tell my Sons" was one of the books featured. Having lost both my Dad and my Step-Dad to cancer, this caught my eye(ear) immediately. From the excerpt read there, and what you've had to say here, it sounds like a truly inspirational book! As a mother of 5, and having reached the big 40, I have also experienced thoughts of "what if". This is one book I will make a point of reading, and perhaps gaining some ideas for leaving something for my kids (unpublished, I might add...I'm no writer!) Wish your give-away wasn't limited to US residents! :( Thanks for the positive feedback. Condolences to his family and friends for their recent loss.

I lost my father to cancer, also. It was very nice that he was able to do this for his sons. I would love to have this book.

The Siddhartha Mukherjee book, The Emperor of All Maladies, has been on my to read list for a long time now, so his whole hearted endorsement of this book has really made me want to read/listen to it.

I've found some of best and heart wrenching lessons are from people that know that their time is limited, but are willing to share their insights for the remainder of the human population that will be left behind to carry on. I am very interested in hearing what was important for him to leave his son's with. Thanks so much for the opportunity.

I listened to the long version of the last lecture. He reminds me of others that I received e-mails everyday from people who are fighting cancer and keep their spirits up. I am lucky enough to have a pre-cancer which may never advance but I have also been privileged to know many in their final stages of the fight to survive and live. I have always been impressed with the courage that they meet their emotional and physical pain with. I want to listen to this book and then tell my friends about it.

From his blog, I love the statement that he expounded on the main page:

"To be strong enough to know when you are weak, brave enough to face yourself when you are afraid."

It's like this is an extension of Randy Pausch’s THE LAST LECTURE. That's the first thing I thought of. What a wonderful thing to do for his family and us, too.

I was close to my father as a child. My dad left our family when I was 7 years old. He is no longer living now. I like to see how other fathers feel about their children to get some sense of what a true father would be.
