THE SHADOW TRACER
BY MEG GARDINER
ABOUT THE BOOK:
An explosive stand-alone thriller from the Edgar Award–winning writer Stephen King called “the next suspense superstar”
Can a person ever really disappear for good by going off the grid? And what happens when vanishing is no longer an option?
Sarah Keller is a single mother to five-year-old Zoe, living quietly in Oklahoma. She’s also a skip tracer, an expert in tracking people who’ve gone on the lam to avoid arrest, prosecution, or debt—pinpointing their locations to bring them to justice.
When a school bus accident sends Zoe to the ER, their quiet life explodes. Zoe’s medical tests reveal what Sarah has been hiding: Zoe is not her daughter. Zoe’s biological mother—Sarah’s sister, Beth—was murdered shortly after the child’s birth. And Zoe’s father is missing and presumed dead.
With no way to prove her innocence, Sarah must abandon her carefully constructed life and go on the run. Chased by cops, federal agents, and the group responsible for Beth’s murder, Sarah embarks on a desperate journey. Can her knowledge as a skip tracer help her stay off the grid, remain one step ahead of her pursuers, and find a way to save her daughter?
Meg Gardiner is acclaimed for her richly drawn characters, propulsive plotting, relentless suspense, and shocking twists. The Shadow Tracer delivers on those fronts and more.

PRAISE FOR THE SHADOW TRACER:
Gardiner’s latest stand-alone revisits the story of Thelma and Louise, with Thelma played by a professional skip tracer and Louise by a refugee from kindergarten… Gardiner (Ransom River, 2012, etc.) will keep you up half the night with nonstop action and nary a pause for breath.”--Kirkus, starred review
“Edgar-winner Gardiner’s second stand-alone (after Ransom River) boasts another of the strong female characters she’s known for and enough pulse-pounding action to satisfy the most avid thriller fan… packed with surprises and harrowing escapes.”--Publishers Weekly
“Heart-stopping… Edgar Award–winner Gardiner (Ransom River, 2012) steadily ratchets up the suspense in this taut stand-alone tale.”--Booklist
“The novels that can be set into the ‘fantastic’ category may be slim, but this standalone mystery by Meg Gardiner certainly found a place in that elite group.”--Suspense Magazine

This sounds like a very good thriller. I would like to see why she raised her sister's daughter pretending she was her own, and what happens when she runs away.

I've read many Edgar Award winning writer's works, but I've yet read any of Meg Gardiner's novels. I too, like Debbie, wonder why she would raise her sister's daughter. I also am intrigued with the question -- "And what happens when vanishing is no longer an option?" Sounds like something sinister is happening in Oklahoma and I am adding my name to your contest in order to find out answers to these questions. Thanks for the opportunity.

Learning your mother isn't your biological mother must be so shocking and difficult to put in perspective. Never tire of this type of plot.

I haven't read any of Meg's books yet and this sounds like a good place to start. I would be curious if her skip tracer background helps her much as she eludes the authorities.
Thanks!

I would love to read this book. It sounds like a good thriller. I would love to find out what happens. Please enter me in contest. I am a follower and email subscriber. Tore923@aol.com
This thriller sounds very exciting. I wonder why she didn't just adopt her niece? Was she afraid of the murderer? I would love learning more about a skip tracer's job and ways that people trying to hide slip up.

This sounds like such a good story. I'd like to follow her run across the country and see how she outruns the cops, feds and murderers of her sister. I'd like to see how she explains this to her niece or if she does.
