LET'S GET COZY! THE VANISHING THIEF: A PREVIEW AND GIVEAWAY

 GIVEAWAY ENDED
THE VANISHING THIEF
A Victorian Bookshop Mystery
BY KATE PARKER

ABOUT THE BOOK:
Georgia Fenchurch appears to be an unassuming antiquarian bookseller in Victorian London, but the life she leads is as exciting as any adventure novel. For Georgia is a member of the Archivist Society, a secret association of private investigators led by the mysterious Sir Broderick.

When a frantic woman comes to Georgia claiming that her neighbor, Nicholas Drake, has been abducted by the notorious Duke of Blackford, Georgia and the Archivist Society agree to take the case. But Drake is no innocent—he is a thief who has been blackmailing many of the leading members of London society. To find Drake and discover who is behind his abduction, Georgia and her beautiful assistant, Emma, will have to leave the cozy confines of their bookshop and infiltrate the inner circles of the upper crust—with the help of the dashing but dubious Duke of Blackford himself.

But the missing thief and his abductor are not the only ones to elude Georgia Fenchurch. When she spies the man who killed her parents years ago, she vows to bring him to justice once and for all...at any cost.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Kate Parker has held a variety of careers, including microbiologist in two hospitals, insurance fraud investigator, office clerk, telephone line repairer, and emergency medical technician, but her favorite is writer. Only as a writer can she travel to different locales and centuries.

In the last four years, since she switched from Romantic Suspense to Historical Romance, she has finaled three times in RWA’s Golden Heart® contest with three different manuscripts. Now she’s made the switch to historical mysteries with romantic elements, featuring the twists and turns and dead ends of her favorite mystery writers, including Robert Barnard, Simon Brett, Margaret Frazer, Susanna Gregory, and Deanna Raybourn. When she comes back to the present day, Kate finds herself near the coast of North Carolina with her real life hero, nineteenth century architecture and twenty-first century comforts.

AN EXCERPT FROM THE VANISHING THIEF:
Moments later, I heard the door open and a commanding voice said, “The Duke of Blackford for Sir Broderick duVene and Miss Fenchurch.”
“They’re not available this evening, Your Grace.”
“Oh, I think they’ll see me.”
Emma whispered, “That’s him. That’s Georgia’s duke.”
“He’s not my—.” I looked at Sir Broderick and gulped. This was worse than any nightmare. How did he know I was here? My friends would throw me out of their society after this debacle.
“Bring him up, Jacob,” Sir Broderick called out.
My heart thudded with every step on the stairs. I glanced around the room. Every eye was trained on the doorway.
Maybe it was only a fluctuation in the gas pressure, but it seemed to me that the lights dimmed as the Duke of Blackford entered the study. He was dressed in the finest of black evening wear that seemed to absorb the warmth and brightness of the room and replace it with chilled darkness. Every hair on his head was precisely combed despite the wind outside.
I didn’t realize the room had grown silent and I was holding my breath until Sir Broderick said, “Come in, Your Grace, and state your business with us.”

Since it seems most cozy mysteries are contemporary, this book set in Victorian England would be a pleasant change.
