ABOUT THE AUDIO BOOK:
Dr. Eric Parrish is the Chief of the Psychiatric Unit at Havemeyer General Hospital outside of Philadelphia. Recently separated from his wife Alice, he is doing his best as a single Dad to his seven-year-old daughter Hannah. His work seems to be going better than his home life, however. His unit at the hospital has just been named number two in the country and Eric has a devoted staff of doctors and nurses who are as caring as Eric is. But when he takes on a new patient, Eric's entire world begins to crumble.
Seventeen-year-old Max has a terminally ill grandmother and is having trouble handling it. That, plus his OCD and violent thoughts about a girl he likes makes Max a high risk patient. Max can't turn off the mental rituals he needs to perform every fifteen minutes that keep him calm. With the pressure mounting, Max just might reach the breaking point.
When the girl is found murdered, Max is nowhere to be found. Worried about Max, Eric goes looking for him and puts himself in danger of being seen as a "person of interest" himself. Next, one of his own staff turns on him in a trumped up charge of sexual harassment. Is this chaos all random? Or is someone systematically trying to destroy Eric's life?
New York Times best selling author Lisa Scottoline's visceral thriller, Every Fifteen Minutes, brings you into the grip of a true sociopath and shows you how, in the quest to survive such ruthlessness, every minute counts.

MY THOUGHTS/REVIEW:
Once again, Lisa Scottoline lived up to my expectations with her latest novel, EVERY FIFTEEN MINUTES. As soon as I met Dr. Eric Parrish and read about his dysfunctional family situation, I was hooked. Reading (listening) on, Max Jakubowski enters the story and the action accelerates non-stop. With Eric embroiled in a custody battle for his young daughter, Hannah, the last thing he needs is controversy, but he gets it in the form of Max. Max appears in the ER with his beloved Grandmother who is told her illness is terminal and Max can't handle it. She is the one stable thing in Max's life that he clings to. Suffering from anxiety as well as being severely OCD, it is recommended that he see Dr. Parrish, the head of psychiatry at the hospital. Their meeting reveals that the more anxious Max is, the worse his symptoms. Max must recite eight colors, in specific order, every 15 minutes, just to stay stable. As Dr. Parrish finds out, Max not only is very attached to his grandmother but likes a girl, in a very one-sided relationship. Eric finds out that Max knows so much about this girl that it borders on stalking.
Add to all this, an associate charges Eric with sexual harassment, thus jeopardizing his career as well as endangering his case for custody of his daughter. When the young woman that Max has a crush on is found murdered, the narrative takes yet another twist. Now Max seems to really be losing it as he holds kids hostage in a mall. Eric, convinced that Max is innocent, sets out to find the runaway suspect before the police do. All this adds to the doctor's involvement and he also becomes a suspect.
Lisa Scottoline uses the anonymous sociopath from the start of EVERY FIFTEEN MINUTES to add their take on the action and characters throughout this thriller. That unknown figure keeps us guessing who this could be, and how it might help readers to figure out the identity of this real villain. With so many twists and turns, this compelling page-turner will keep you reading far into the night. Every time the sociopath chimed in, I would second guess myself on who the killer was. Max is an obvious choice but is he too obvious? Eric is a stable doctor just caught up in all this and trying to help, or are we missing something that could drive Eric to kill? Are the people out to ruin Eric's reputation looking for an easy way to frame him? Is his wife involved more than we might think?
I must add that the audio book has an even more exciting feel to it thanks to the excellent narrator, George Newbern. The multifaceted characters and the convincingly exhaustive narrative, all add up to the astonishing and surprising conclusion of EVERY FIFTEEN MINUTES!

From reading your review and also having read as many Lisa Scottoline books as I can get, this one sounds like a very rich listening experience. I think the author is brillant and must do a lot of research so that everything you read in the story is rings true. I used to do counseling and my internship we had to deal with many different kinds of mental illness but I have never grasped how to deal with a sociopath. There is no conscience and they can be very charming and are very manipulating. Wow! I am excited that she has a sociopath in her book!
