GIVEAWAY ENDED
BACK TO SCHOOL

FIVE BOOK GIVEAWAY

Photobucket
The end of summer is quite near and soon the kids
will be off to school. Hachette Book Group wants
to help me so my readers can celebrate our shared
love of learning/reading with a special giveaway
of 5 thought-inspiring books!

THANKS TO VALERIE AND THE

HACHETTE BOOK GROUP,
I HAVE FIVE SETS OF
"BACK TO SCHOOL"
PRIZE PACKS TO GIVE AWAY!

EACH SET CONTAINS THE
FOLLOWING FIVE BOOKS:

NurtureShock
Close Encounters of the Third-Grade Kind

In CHEAP We Trust

The Love Revolution
Six Pixels of Separation
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
ABOUT THE BOOKS

NURTURESHOCK
by Po Bronson & Ashley Merryman

In a world of modern, involved, caring parents, why are so many kids aggressive and cruel? Where is intelligence hidden in the brain, and why does that matter? Why do cross-racial friendships decrease in schools that are more integrated? If 98% of kids think lying is morally wrong, then why do 98% of kids lie? What's the single most important thing that helps infants learn language?
NurtureShock is a groundbreaking collaboration between award-winning science journalists Po Bronson and Ashley Merryman. They argue that when it comes to children, we've mistaken good intentions for good ideas. With impeccable storytelling and razor-sharp analysis, they demonstrate that many of modern society's strategies for nurturing children are in fact backfiring--because key twists in the science have been overlooked. Nothing like a parenting manual, the authors' work is an insightful exploration of themes and issues that transcend children's (and adults') lives.

CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD-GRADE KIND
by Phillip Done

A twenty-year
veteran of the classroom, elementary school teacher Phillip Done takes readers through a lively and hilarious year in the classroom. Starting with the relative calm before the storm of buying school supplies and posting class lists, he shares the distinct personalities of grades K-4, what he learned from two professional trick or treating 8-year-old boys, the art of learning cursive and letter-writing, how kindergartners try to trap leprechauns, and what every child should experience before he or she grows up. These charming, sweet, and funny tales of Mr. Done's trials and triumphs as an award-winning schoolteacher will touch reader's hearts and remind them of the true joys of childhood. We all have that one special, favorite grade school teacher whom we fondly remember throughout our adult lives - and every teacher also has students whom they will never forget. This is the perfect book for teachers, parents, and anyone else who is looking for a lighthearted, nostalgic read.

IN CHEAP WE TRUST
by Lauren Weber

What does it mean to be cheap? When is stowing money away wise, and when is it miserly? How might American interpret the economic downturn after years of indulgence and over-spending?
To answer these questions, IN CHEAP WE TRUST considers our hot-and-cold relationship with thrift and offers a colorful ride through its history in America, from Ben Franklin and his famous maxims to the branding of Jews and the Chinese as cheap in order to neutralize the economic competition they represented. From Dumpster-diving and the psychology of hoarding to Americans' thrifty responses to war and recession, IN CHEAP WE TRUST teases out the meanings of the word "cheap" and explores the wisdom, virtues, and pleasures of not spending every last penny, all the while sparkling with smart, engaging writing that's well worth another precious asset-time!

THE LOVE REVOLUTION
by Joyce Meyer

Joyce Meyer has been teaching the Word of God since 1976 and has been in full-time ministry since 1980. She is a #1 New York Times bestselling author of more than seventy inspirational books. She has also released thousands of audio teachings as well as a complete video library. Joyce's ENJOYING EVERYDAY LIFE radio and television programs are broadcast around the world, and she travels extensively conducting conferences. Joyce and her husband, Dave, are the parents of four grown children and make their home in St. Louis, Missouri. You can visit her at www.joycemeyer.org.

SIX PIXELS OF SEPARATION
by Mitch Joel

Is it important to be connected? Well, consider this: If Facebook were a country, it would have the sixth largest population in the world.
The truth is, we no longer live in a world of six degrees of separation. In fact, we're now down to only six pixels of separation, which changes everything we know about doing business.
This is the first book to integrate digital marketing, social media, personal branding, and entrepreneurship in a clear, entertaining, and instructive manner that everyone can understand and apply.
Through the use of timely case studies and fascinating stories, SIX PIXELS OF SEPARATION offers a complete set of the latest tactics, insights, and tools that will empower you to reach a global audience and consumer base-and, best yet, you can do this pretty much for free. Digital marketing expert Mitch Joel unravels this fascinating world of new media-but does so with a brand-new perspective that is driven by compelling results. The smarter entrepreneurs and top executives are leveraging these digital channels to get their voice "out there"-connecting with others, becoming better community citizens, and, ultimately, making strategic business moves that are increasing revenue, awareness, and overall success in the marketplace-without the support of traditional mass media.
Everyone is connected. Isn't it time for you and your company to connect to everyone? SIX PIXELS OF SEPARATION will show you how.

I am not first, am I? One of my favorites was the 10th grade when I got to be on the Yearbook Staff in high school. I tried to get on the YS when I was attending a Christian school but transferred to public. The Christian school kids didn't accept me. I guess I wasn't geeky enough. lol Jokin'... :)

Grade 8 was my favorite year - I went away to boarding school. The school was run by the Sisters of Holy Rosary and, contrary to popular belief, it was fun. The sisters played broomball with us, went for walks, etc.

I had to think about this a day, I really like school overall! But looking back, I think I liked my Fourth grade teacher, Mrs. Gray the most. I really bloomed that year in the academic area and she really challenged me to reach and read/write more difficult texts. And she was a big promoter of Scholastic and it was rare I didn't get a new book rec. out of that!

All of these are very interesting titles!

My favorite year is school was third grade because we learned about Native Americans - except they were American Indians in the textbooks then! I wanted to BE an Indian living in a teepee, riding bareback through the woods, and running around in moccasins - and yes, I had all the tribes thoroughly mixed up. :-) Haven't had as much fun with history class since.

My favorite grade in school was probably freshman year in high school. I finally started to really explore on my own and really learned about getting out on my own. Well, kind of on my own. My best friend and I would take the bus every Wednesday to the mall and we would eat at the deli there (I think it was a Swiss Colony but I could be wrong), we would then browse all the shops, gab and just have fun hanging out. The last stop would always be the B. Dalton bookstore where I freely spent my allowance on the latest romances like Sooner or Later and the Sweet Dreams line. Great giveaway!

My favorite grade was 2nd grade, my teacher had passion and energy and she had been teaching for quite a while before I got her.

My favorite grade in school? Hmmmm....I guess I would have to say 4th grade. We had THE sweetest teacher in whole world. Everyone loved her. She left our school at the end of the school year and there was a river of tears shed.
