THE SARI SHOP WIDOW REVIEW and WINNER!

THE SARI SHOP WIDOW
BY SHOBHAN BANTWAL

MY REVIEW

Edison, New Jersey's area known as Little India is the setting for this charming story of Anjali Kapadia and her fabulous sari shop. Known as Silks & Sapphires, Anjali took over the shop and worked hard since she became a widow ten years ago. Her family are loving and supportive and you will feel like you are in their home the way that Bantwal writes. Her descriptions will involve all your senses as you feel you can taste the exotic cuisine, and hear the rustle of the luxurious fabrics, and experience the pride and love the family feels for each other. Each of the characters will become part of you as if they are your family. It is one reason the book goes so quickly and ends so sadly...sadly for the reader who hates for it to end.

But with all that, the story isn't all lotus blossoms and saffron. Anjali, who fills her shop with nothing but the finest clothing and accessories, has put her all into this business that she co-owns with her parents. So when she is told that the store is in terrible financial shape, it is no wonder it hits her so hard. Her parents, however, have a plan to save things. Her uncle will be arriving from India to save the shop. With great distress,
Anjali hears this news. This is her uncle, Javeen Kapadia, who is wise and she knows can help, but also one she knows she will be talked down to and have to work along his old ways. And when Uncle Javeen gets to Little India, he sure enough condemns what she does and criticizes Anjali's work. He easily intimidates both her mother and her but to make it worse, he has brought a very light skinned Indian business partner with him.

Rishi Shah is a British businessman who is not only good at business but at many things and to top it off, he is very good looking and his money and advice can save the shop.
Anjali feels very uncomfortable around Rishi and has no interest in anyone romantically as she still suffers the sting of losing her beloved husband, Vik, ten years earlier. And so, Anjali battles her head and her heart so as to not give either away. This becomes harder as Rishi shows interest in her and he is not the kind who doesn't get what he wants. Staying with her family, he tries to make her see he is interested but will not push and soon he has charmed her parents and her brother as well. With all that, and the fact that she herself has started to have strange stirrings when he is near, Anjali is still cautious.

As
Anjali tries to save her business, she also tries to solve the mysterious relationship between Rishi and her Uncle Javeen. She hasn't seen him close to someone like this before. Why is that? Does he owe him something? Why does Rishi have this hold on what seems like, all of them? Around him, she even finds her uncle to be nicer. What is this that is happening? Will Anjali figure it out? Will her heart give in despite what her mind might tell her to do? Or is she just being a silly girl and missing out on something that is maybe as good as it seems? This story and the characters in it will become a part of you and it will not be long before you know the answers. Nor will it be long before you wish that there was more of Anjali and her world for you to read on about. I really enjoyed becoming immersed in this world and hated for it to end. Don't miss out on this one!
