CAREER COMEBACK: REVIEW AND GIVEAWAY

GIVEAWAY ENDED
CAREER COMEBACK

BY LISA JOHNSON MANDELL

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Unfortunately, getting older can be a career killer. That's what entertainment journalist Lisa Johnson Mandell discovered when she sent out a resume that made her sound like an aged veteran. Her new career makeover guide-expanded from the Wall Street Journal article about revamping her "older" image to land her dream job-acknowledges that experience matters, but looking and acting up-to-date matters just as much. Mandell provides ten strategies for putting a youthful spin on resumes, Web pages, and personal presentation.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Lisa Johnson Mandell is an award-winning multi-media journalist and author. She has been featured in The Wall St. Journal and Forbes, as well as on Dr. Phil, Rachael Ray, Bravo, the CBS Early Show, NBC Today, Fox News and many other media outlets. She is a popular international speaker, and her blog, LisaJohnsonMandell.com, is a helpful resource for all job seekers.

Lisa currently lives in Los Angeles with her husband James and their Golden Doodle, “KC.” When she is not helping people land jobs they love, she’s probably interviewing movie stars or preparing film reviews for Entercom radio stations and for Filmazing.com.

BEFORE MY REVIEW, I WANT TO LET YOU KNOW THAT LISA MANDELL IS A BLOGGER AT AOL'S Dimecrunch AND HAS HER OWN GREAT BLOG AT www.lisajohnsonmandel.com. SHE WOULD LOVE COMMENTS, QUESTIONS, AND CONCERNS SENT IN. ALSO, LISA HAS A NEW FAN PAGE ON Facebook HERE.

REVIEW:

Lisa Johnson Mandell gives new hope to women looking for a job in this tough economical madhouse we are now in. She combines humor and her experiences as well as some fun facts to make the information she presents clear and easy to read. I found the book interesting even though I am luckily just retired and not looking for a job but have many friends who are.

Mandell gives ideas and suggestions about your attitude and how to do a good interview. She talks about interviewing like a "rock star" and very importantly "looking the part". The fact that she plays to the somewhat older job hunter in the over 40 crowd is especially good to see. Her good advice for reworking your resume is invaluable. The examples of a resume before and then how it looks after her makeover, is amazing. She gives really good advice about "botoxing" your resume which makes you see how her sense of humor thrown in lends itself to making the book and subject much more approachable. It is sad to say but not much has changed and discrimination due to age is still prevalent and don't think it isn't. The job market has changed so much in just the past two years and this advise can be the thing that gives you the advantage.

The book certainly addresses how to get a job but also covers women who are starting their own business or just trying to climb that corporate ladder and get a promotion. Mandell covers many topics in the book including how to network, information on the differences between baby boomers, Gen X, and Gen Y and how one can make the jump and lessen the differences. Also included are resources like recommended companies and websites, preparing for the interview, and even includes real life examples on how to handle different situations. Again, with humor and organization, Mandell makes the sometimes frightening and disheartening topic one that is much easier to deal with. The book even includes quizzes and some fun facts to keep it going and upbeat.

I have been thinking about trying to get out of the career I'm in and start something new. I've actually started selling Mary Kay, but I need some help and maybe this book could do it.
