DEADLY INTENT: REVIEW AND GIVEAWAY

GIVEAWAY ENDED
DEADLY INTENT
THE MINDHUNTERS SERIES
BY KYLIE BRANT

ABOUT THE BOOK:
No one knows the patterns and nuances of communication like forensic linguist Macy Reid. She is also an expert on kidnapping, having experienced firsthand the stark terror of being abducted when she was a child. So she is the perfect investigator to be called in when a Denver tycoon's eleven-year-old daughter is abducted—for the second time.

The biggest stumbling block for Macy may be a member of her own team: Kellan Burke, the wisecracking, rule-breaking investigator who relishes getting under Macy's skin. Their styles couldn't be more different; the attraction between them more explosive. And when it becomes apparent that Macy can't solve the case without confronting the demons from her past, Kell is just the man to take her there—and back.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
I’m a native Midwesterner, having lived my whole life in Iowa. My husband and I are still trying to adjust to becoming empty nesters. Much of the time we rattle around our big century-old Victorian with a spoiled Polish Lowland Sheepdog named Lexie. We’re on the go a lot, traveling to see our kids and grandsons, tailgating at Iowa games, and enjoying new tropical getaways. If you know anything about Iowa winters, you’ll understand our desire for sun and beach once January hits.
In 1990 I began writing out of sheer desperation. Always an avid reader, I’d found that my favorite authors just couldn’t write fast enough to keep me in reading material. Someday if you twist my arm and buy me very strong margaritas, I might be convinced to share my whole embarrassing road to publication story. The short version is that my second manuscript sold in 1992, and then a few months later my first manuscript was bought, too, after it had undergone several major surgeries. To date I’ve written twenty-five books for Silhouette Intimate Moments (Romantic Suspense), five dark romantic thrillers for Berkley, a short story for eharlequin.com and participated in an Iowa authors murder mystery.

I live a dual life. Believe me, that sounds much more glamorous than it is. By day I’m an elementary special education teacher, working with students who have learning and behavior problems. During the weekends and summers…well, I can be forgiven for needing a little relaxation, right? And if my idea of relaxation includes dreaming up new ways to kill and maim my characters, it seems a harmless enough hobby. Some people golf. Now there’s a dangerous pastime. All those swinging clubs and small speeding objects. Someone could lose an eye.

When I’m not at the computer (always writing, never playing solitaire), I enjoy hanging out with family and friends, exercising, reading, flower gardening, and traveling.

MY REVIEW:
Eleven year old Ellie is kidnapped…for the second time in her life! Her parents immediately contact Adam Raiker of Raiker Investigations, also known as the Mindhunters, because Raiker is the one who found Ellie the first time. Raiker calls in Macy Reed, who works for him as a forensic linguist, to work on the case. She is perfect to help with this case because she is excellent at what she does, takes her work seriously, but more importantly, this case is personal. You see, Macy was also a kidnap victim and can’t imagine what Ellie must be going though having it happen twice so she has a special stake in this case.

Kellan Burke is assigned as Macy’s partner. Burke, an investigator who in Macy's opinion is somewhat of a wise guy, enjoys teasing Macy about her being British and so prim and proper. This makes Macy a little crazy and she wishes they didn’t have to work together but in fact, they wind up working quite closely with each other.

In their pursuit to find Ellie, Kellan realizes that Macy just might have to face her past in order to save this girl. For her to do this, Macy must put her trust in Kellan. This winds up being a great help to Macy; much more than she would have expected. The chemistry between Macy and Kellan builds and adds another delightful dimension to the story but these two also know they have an important job to do, so that must keep this in check. When Macy directly ignores an order from her boss by talking to someone from her past, Kellan is the one to rescue her from this. All this adds to their relationship, and brings Macy and Kellan closer than ever.

This Mindhunters Series just gets better with each installment. In this fourth book, Kylie Brant gives readers all they can ask for-mystery, suspense, romance, and enough twists and turns to keep you turning pages late into the night! I, for one, will be eagerly waiting for the next Mindhunters book…so write on, Ms. Brant!

From her website, I found that she works as a special education teacher in addition to writing. I know that is a demanding job because my mother taught special education for several years. I wonder where does she get her energy.
