RESCUE: AN ANITA SHREVE GIVEAWAY

GIVEAWAY ENDED
RESCUE
BY ANITA SHREVE

ABOUT THE BOOK:
A rookie paramedic pulls a young woman alive from her totaled car, a first rescue that begins a lifelong tangle of love and wreckage. Sheila Arsenault is a gorgeous enigma--streetwise and tough-talking, with haunted eyes, fierce desires, and a never-look-back determination. Peter Webster, as straight an arrow as they come, falls for her instantly and entirely. Soon Sheila and Peter are embroiled in an intense love affair, married, and parents to a baby daughter. Like the crash that brought them together, it all happened so fast.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
ANITA SHREVE began writing fiction while working as a high school teacher. Although one of her first published stories, "Past the Island, Drifting," was awarded an O. Henry Prize in 1975, Shreve felt she couldn't make a living as a fiction writer so she became a journalist. She traveled to Africa, and spent three years in Kenya, writing articles that appeared in magazines such as Quest, US, and Newsweek. Back in the United States, she turned to raising her children and writing freelance articles for magazines. Shreve later expanded two of these articles — both published in the New York Times Magazine — into the nonfiction books Remaking Motherhood and Women Together, Women Alone. At the same time Shreve also began working on her first novel, Eden Close. With its publication in 1989, she gave up journalism for writing fiction full time, thrilled, as she says, with "the rush of freedom that I could make it up."

Since Eden Close Anita Shreve has written eleven other novels: Strange Fits of Passion, Where or When, Resistance, The Weight of Water, The Pilot's Wife, Fortune's Rocks, The Last Time They Met, Sea Glass, All He Ever Wanted, Light on Snow, A Wedding in December and, most recently, Body Surfing. In 1998 Shreve received the PEN/L. L. Winship Award and the New England Book Award for fiction.

According Anita's web site she has written sixteen novels. I also found out that her novel "The Pilot's Wife" was selected for Oprah's Book Club in March 1999. This novel "Rescue" sounds like a wonderful read. I have seen both sides of the fence when it comes to people that get married very quickly ... some work and some don't. Now I wonder if this fictional marriage worked?

I'm an avid Anita Shreve fan. I've read all of her books. She is one of my authors that I anxiously await a new novel and devour it when reading. Her novels look at different societal issues from different vantage points and you end up deciding what you would have done in such circumstances.

From Anita Shreve's website, I think I would like to read 'The Weight of Water. The main character of the story comes to a small island off the New England Coast to do a photoessay on double murder of women long ago, a third woman survived by hiding in a sea cave. She becomes obsessed with the story and at the same time her marriage falls about. Anita Shreve based the story of the women on a true story which makes it even more enticing. There is even a link to the "Smuttynose Murders".
The story of the woman's marriage is in a way reflects the storminess of the murders.
