THE GOOD FATHER SCAVENGER HUNT BLOG TOUR: A GUEST POST, EXCERPT, AND GIVEAWAY

 GIVEAWAY ENDED
THE GOOD FATHER
BY DIANE CHAMBERLAIN

ABOUT THE BOOK:
A beloved daughter. A devastating choice.
And now there’s no going back.
Four years ago, nineteen-year-old Travis Brown had to make a life changing decision. While his friends were out partying and meeting girls, Travis was at home raising his newborn daughter on his own – changing diapers and working to keep food on the table. But he’s never regretted his decision. Bella is the light of his life – the reason behind every move he makes – and so far, she is fed. Cared for. Safe.

But when Travis loses his construction job and his home, the security he’s worked so hard to create for Bella begins to crumble…

Bestselling author of The Secret Life of CeeCee Wilkes, The Midwife’s Confession, and The Lies We Told, Diane Chamberlain, returns with her latest and most gripping novel to date, THE GOOD FATHER, showing the great lengths a father will go to provide for his little girl.

Just when Travis is at a loss for solutions, a job in Raleigh opens up with the power to change their situation. It has to. But upon arriving in Raleigh, there is no job, only an offer to participate in a onetime criminal act that promises quick money and no repercussions.

With nowhere else to turn, Travis must make another choice for his daughter’s sake. Even if it means he might lose her.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
'Diane Chamberlain's characters are so realistic that you feel you know them in person, and when you get to the end of the book, you miss them." --New York Times Bestselling Author Tatiana de Rosnay

Diane Chamberlain is the bestselling author of 18 novels. Her books, frequently set in the southeastern United States, are complex stories about love, compassion and forgiveness with a touch of mystery and suspense.

Diane was born and raised in Plainfield, New Jersey, and attended Glassboro State University. She also lived for many years in both San Diego and northern Virginia. Diane received her master’s degree in clinical social work from San Diego State University. Prior to her writing career, she was a hospital social worker and a psychotherapist in private practice, working primarily with adolescents.

Diane’s background in psychology and her work in hospitals have given her a keen interest in understanding the way people tick, as well as the background necessary to create real, living, breathing characters.

More than a decade ago, Diane was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, which changed the way she works: she sometimes types using voice-recognition software. She feels fortunate that her arthritis is not more severe and that she is able to enjoy everyday activities as well as keep up with a busy work and travel schedule.

Diane has three married stepdaughters, three grandchildren and two shelties. She lives with photographer John Pagliuca in North Carolina where she's at work on her next novel.

A GUEST POST FROM DIANE CHAMBERLAIN:
How do you continue to find inspiration after writing so many novels?

If anything, writing so many novels has made it easier for me to find inspiration rather than harder, because I’ve learned to see it in the everyday. Inspiration is everywhere, but as with most things in life, it can take practice to recognize it. When it’s time for me to think about writing another book, I become a sponge. Everything I see and hear is fodder for a new story. I listen in on conversations in restaurants (sorry!). I go to museums and study the paintings of people, looking into their eyes to imagine what they’re thinking. I watch movies to help me hone my story-telling skills. And I pay attention to my dreams, which often offer fascinating dilemmas I can use to test my characters, even if those dreams are so scary I have to turn on the light and play computer Scrabble until I can clear my head!
One thing I tell new writers is that they need to live in order to write. It know how much it helps me to get outside of my writing cave and move among people. I pay attention to what they say and do. Sometimes I go to the airport and simply watch the reunions. Some are joyous occasions. Some are borne of tragedy. I imagine the stories of those people--and of people wherever I go. Not only does it feed my story-telling imagination, but it makes me feel more empathy for people in general, and that can’t hurt either in the creation of fully dimensional characters or in living my day to day life.
The Good Father was inspired by observing a young man and his little daughter in a coffee shop. If I hadn’t been there at the moment they walked inside, I would have missed this story I had the joy of writing. Tomorrow I might spot an old man in a restaurant or a teenager at a bus stop, just waiting to inspire me. All I have to do is pay attention.

TODAY'S EXCERPT FROM THE GOOD FATHER SCAVENGER BLOG TOUR:
"I got to go potty," Bella said.
"Yeah, baby, me too." I ran a comb through her dark hair, which I really should have tried to wash in the Wal-Mart restroom last night like I did once already this week. Last night, though, washing her hair had been the furthest thing on my mind. She needed a haircut, too, but it wasn't like I'd thought of bringing scissors with me when we left Carolina Beach.

PLEASE GO TO LIVING LIFE AS I SEE FIT TO FOLLOW THE BLOG TOUR IN ORDER AND ENJOY!
As a SPECIAL TREAT, on the last day of the blog tour, Diane Chamberlain will be LIVE on BookTrib’s homepage where you’ll be given the chance to ask her questions. Click HERE to find out more. So mark your calendar for May 31st at 3 pm ET!

I was fascinated by her bio since I grew up in New Jersey and lived in San Diego for 20 years. I knew the places she mentioned. And, she was a writer on One Life to Live for a short time and that was one of my favorite soaps.
