REVIEW AND WINNER OF ANGEL LANE

ANGEL LANE
BY SHEILA ROBERTS

MY REVIEW

Chocolate. It isn't hard to understand how Sarah, Emma, and Jamie became good friends. Emma had gone into Jamie's chocolate shop one day while Sarah and her niece Jamie were just finishing off their day with some good chocolate. They begin to talk and before you know it, the three found themselves there every Wednesday and became friends through this little weekly habit.

They found out that as inhabitants of the lovely Heart Lake community that they had a lot in common. All are independent women with not just Jamie's candy store, but also Sarah owns a bakery and Emma is trying to make a go of her quilt store. Each of them has a very unique and special gift to bring to their trio.

Their little trio of friends keep talking about how their home town of Heart Lake was growing so much and losing the quaint small town charm they loved. They began a project to try and "keep the heart in Heart Lake"! They wanted to bring the community together through a type of random act of kindness toward each other so their community would be a friendlier place to live.

As you suspect, not all is picture perfect as each of them is struggling with their own problems. With their own attempts to participate in the program, their businesses begin to struggle. While Emma is having trouble keeping her business afloat anyway, cutting the cost of her quilts is not the right way to satisfy everyone and keep her business going. Sarah is lonely and misses her granddaughters. She decides to combat that by teaching a group of young girls to bake. Little does Sarah know what all that entails when she discovers one of these kids is a thief! Jamie continues to deal with her own demons after an abusive husband has broken her heart, and then to confront a new man in her life--a policeman who keeps hassling her. Together, they help each other as well as many others including a new family that has moved to Heart Lake.

This story is uplifting and a wonderful read, especially at this time of the year. If you are looking for a good book to share with a good friend, this just might be the one to look into for the holidays!
